This is a memorial for Dorothy Kole,
known to all of us as Dottie.
She passed away peacefully on the night of November 10, 2019, after
nearly a hundred and one years on this Earth.
Besides teaching thousands of kids to read, Dottie traveled the world, opened her home to friends, relatives and strangers alike, and left
an enduring legacy of kindness and love.
Her daughter Kay has created a Photo Gallery on Google.
If you have photos you would like added, please email them to Kay.

When I met Dottie about 30 years ago, it was immediately evident to me that she was a special person and I couldn't help but find an instant connection. She was a sweetheart - kind, caring and fun. I loved hearing interesting stories of her life experiences, her travels and dedication to people. I will always remember her smile and joie de vivre. She will be missed; we are lucky that she walked gently on this earth for a century.

Here is a poem made of Dottie's own words:
I'm tired of all this.
One of these days
I'm going to throw all these pills
and pokes
Right out the window
And run out the door
Barefoot.
I'll just run up the dirt road
to the woods.
I'll run to the Big Log
And climb up to the Eagles Nest.
From up there
I'll look around
at all the trees, the meadows
the river and mountains.
From up there
I can touch the blue, blue sky.

We held a Celebration of Life for Dottie to celebrate her 100th birthday. We do not plan to hold a memorial. If you feel moved to do so, please give a donation to your favorite charity, or to
The Goodtimes Project, in her name.

Dottie's favorite song was Blue Moon -
here's a nice version. Next time you're out looking up at the moon, think of her.

I met Dottie 40 years ago when I married Jack Traub. She was his favorite Auntie and I believe she loved him too. We always had fun together. I especially enjoyed her tales of her travels when she was young. A remarkable woman. I will miss her and am so sorry for your loss
